A porcelain smile
When we think about porcelain, the most common items that come into mind are usually dishes or dolls. Did you know that these days one of the most common items made from porcelain are worn everyday by many people? Yes, that’s right, porcelain teeth. Well, I should say, porcelain veneers.
Veneers are used in dentistry as a method of making the teeth look perfect. The real tooth is sanded down and a veneer (an item that looks similar to a tooth, but simply caps the original tooth) is placed over the sanded tooth. Porcelain is the most common type of veneer purchased because of its ability to look very similar to a real tooth. Porcelain veneers are very similar to the natural structure of our real teeth and allow the tooth to be just as strong, if not stronger than it was before the placement of the veneer.
Well, this is great, right? Unless you are blessed with perfectly perfect teeth, who wouldn’t want to get these porcelain veneers put in. Well, although many people may want to get this procedure done, it is one of the most expensive surgery’s out there. The cost varies between $700 and $2,400 per tooth! That means you’ll be spending $20,000-$40,000 on the teeth alone, as this doesn’t include the procedure costs. Also, because of its nature, the teeth do break under certain conditions and the cost of a repair is a couple hundred for just one tooth. So, although they look great, there is a price to be paid for a porcelain smile.
